Julia Nelson


Julia Nelson is a member of LINC working on simulation research, design and editing. Ms. Nelson specializes in projects related to Latin America, South Asia, governance and human rights. Outside of LINC, Ms. Nelson works with the National Democratic Institute (NDI) on democracy development programs in Asia, particularly on election monitoring and leadership capacity building in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Prior to her work at NDI, Ms. Nelson worked with the Fellowship of Reconciliation as an International Human Rights Observer in the rural Peace Community of San Jose de Apartado, Colombia. By routinely negotiating with the various actors in the conflict zone surrounding the community, she advocated for the protection of human rights while supporting the development of reconciliation efforts. Additionally, Ms. Nelson spent a year working in Kampala, Uganda, where she investigated cases of property-grabbing in coordination with Ugandan officials and communities as well as designed and delivered legal education programs for at-risk areas and populations. Ms. Nelson also previously worked in India with YouthNet, a local organization based in the northeastern state of Nagaland, where she supported programs for empowering youth to communicate with the local government about the issues of unemployment and underdevelopment. Ms. Nelson holds a B.A. in International Studies and Religion from Baylor University and is currently pursuing an M.A. in International Peace-building and Conflict Resolution from the American University. She speaks Spanish.
